What is Mureka?

Mureka is an AI music generation platform that turns a text prompt and lyrics into full songs with vocals. Its V9 model is the version that put it on the map: reviewers consistently call out its rhythmic precision, narrative song structure, multilingual accuracy, and consistency across repeat generations. It's backed by Kunlun Tech, which gives it real engineering resources behind the model. Mureka has since released V9.5 (listed on its site on 13 October 2026); the hands-on testing in this review was done on V9.

Mureka lets you download what you make, rather than keeping generated tracks locked inside a closed streaming/remix network the way some newer AI music platforms do.

Mureka vs Suno: how they compare

The short version: Suno still wins for most creators on raw vocal quality and polish, while Mureka wins on multilingual output, song structure, value, and API access. If you produce in languages other than English, or you need a programmatic pipeline, Mureka may already be the better fit.

Mureka pricing: what each plan actually costs

Mureka sells two consumer subscriptions plus a separate usage-based API. The headline number people quote — $8/month — is the annually billed rate, so here is the full picture.

Subscription plans and prices as listed on Mureka's own site when we read it on 13 October 2026 (the API row on 15 August 2026). They change them without notice, so take the current figures from Mureka directly. For what you may and may not do with the music, read Mureka's terms of service — we don't paraphrase another company's licensing, because only their wording is current and binding.

Where the value actually is: at up to 500 songs for $8/month on the yearly plan, Pro works out to under two cents a song. Premier only makes sense if you are reliably clearing several hundred songs a month — at 2,000 songs it is 4× the volume for 3× the price. Most creators should start on Pro, and only touch the API if they are building Mureka into their own product or pipeline.

The catch to know about: the "$8" you see repeated around the web is the yearly rate — you pay $96 up front. The free plan runs on Mureka's free model, not its advanced ones, so it shows you the workflow, not the top-end sound. To judge the advanced models on your genre before committing twelve months, pay for one month at $10 first.

Litigation to know about: a proposed class action over how Mureka's models were trained, Attack the Sound LLC v. Kunlun Tech Co. (N.D. Ill., No. 1:25-cv-15354), was filed on 17 December 2025 against Kunlun Tech and Skywork AI, the companies behind Mureka. We have not seen a ruling in it; the public docket has its current status. We take no view on the outcome.

Who should use Mureka?

• Multilingual creators — if you make music in languages other than English, Mureka's accuracy is a real edge.
• Developers — Mureka's public API makes it the practical choice if you want to generate music programmatically.
• Volume creators on a budget — up to 500 songs a month for $8 on the yearly plan.
• Anyone serious about quality — run the same prompt on Suno and Mureka, then keep the better take. Mureka is now good enough that it sometimes wins.

If you only ever use one tool and you make English-language vocal songs, Suno is still the pick. For everyone else, Mureka earns a place in the workflow.

Mureka has a public API

Suno has no public API, so if you are building something that needs music generated programmatically, Mureka is one of the few credible options that exists. It covers song generation, lyrics, stems, vocal cloning, remix, instrumentals and text-to-speech, priced per call at platform.mureka.ai.

If you are a creator who will never write a line of code, ignore this entirely — the $8 web plan produces the same audio.

Should you actually switch from Suno?

Honest answer for most people: no — you should add it, not switch to it. Here is the decision in one pass:

• Switch if you produce mainly in a language other than English, or you need a public API. Both are places where Mureka doesn't just compete, it wins outright.
• Run both if songs matter to you individually. One prompt, two engines, keep the better take. At $8/month the second engine costs less than the time you'd spend re-rolling on one.
• Stay on Suno if you make English vocal music, you only want one subscription, and mix polish is what you notice first. Suno still wins that specific comparison, and a bigger song allowance doesn't fix a vocal you don't like.

How to get the best results from Mureka

Mureka rewards the same thing Suno does: a clear, structured style prompt and well-formatted lyrics. Vague prompts get generic songs on every platform. The best results come from specifying genre, vocal type, tempo, mood, instrumentation, and production style — then pairing that with lyrics formatted in proper sections.

Mureka is the generator: it turns lyrics and a style description into audio. HookGenius is the songwriting step before it: the lyrics, the structure, a delivery cue on every section, the style prompt and the title. It makes no audio itself. Write the song once and take it to Mureka, Suno or both.

The paste test, 23 October 2026

We typed one brief into HookGenius: “A warm indie-folk song about teaching my dad to send his first text message. Funny in the verses, tender in the last chorus.” Then we pasted the result into Mureka's Custom tab (model V9.5), field by field. We did not press Create, so this shows what Mureka accepts, not how it sings.

• Lyrics: 1,653 characters into a box that takes 5,000. Every section tag came through unchanged, including the cues after the bar, such as [Verse 1 | Female — middle register, ahead of the beat, close-mic, single, dry].
• Style: 665 characters into a box that takes 1,000.
• Title: “Take Your Time”, 14 of 50 characters.
• What doesn't carry over: Mureka's Custom tab has no exclude field, so HookGenius's list of what to leave out (male lead vocal, glossy pop-choir tone, theatrical belting, autotune, robotic vocal formants) has nowhere to go. And Mureka asks for the vocal gender with its own toggle: this style names a female lead, so set it to Female.

The text in Mureka's fields was checked against the HookGenius result character for character after pasting: identical. The limits are the ones Mureka's page enforced when we ran the test.

Warm Midwestern indie-folk, intimate and gently funny, around 96 BPM with a loose conversational feel. Fingerpicked acoustic guitar with a slightly buzzy low-action setup, cajon played with brushed palms, a beat landing a hair late, reedy melodica carrying the instrumental hooks and a final-chorus countermelody that turns aching. Close-mic'd, boxy small room, dry guitars, short room reverb on vocals only, faint paper-on-snare rattle in the second verse. Female lead, middle-to-low chest voice with a slight persistent husk, softly swallowed final consonants, quiet amusement turning tender; drops to near-spoken register on the second-to-last word of key lines.
