Every genre is tested on Suno v5.5. Each comes with canonical artists, BPM ranges, a dark-variant prompt, a bright-variant prompt, and the failure modes you’ll hit if you try to Google your way there.
Not a genre dump. Every entry is a working chapter with prompts, variants, and fix workflows.
Contents
The prompt formula behind a generation that lands. Style field vs. lyrics field. Where the model listens, where it invents, where it contradicts you.
Each a working chapter. Tested prompts, canonical references, BPM ranges, dark and bright variants, and the exact failure modes to avoid.
Three hundred tags curated into working combinations. The top-30 per category, pair-worthy combos, twenty tested clusters, and the ten tags that quietly ruin prompts.
Descriptor-only prompts that capture signature sounds without naming the artist (Suno filters names). Plus blending recipes — two artists’ DNA into one track.
Personas, Voices, Studio mode, Replace Sections, Callbacks, stem separation. The v5.5 features that change what’s possible, not the v4 leftovers every tutorial still teaches.
Syllable density by genre. Rhyme patterns Suno respects. Fifty pronunciation fixes, dialect control, the chorus formula, bridge engineering, ad-lib handling.
Mumbled vocals. Generic output. Genre drift. Anticlimactic choruses. Voice drift. Genre ceiling. Each with symptom, cause, before/after prompts, and the fix workflow.
How to build 8—12 track albums that feel composed, not stitched together. Sonic anchors. Three narrative-arc templates. Three fully-spec’d worked albums you can build today.
Suno license tiers. Distribution through DistroKid, TuneCore, AWAL, Amuse. Sync libraries. Copyright in 2026. YouTube monetization. Ethics. Taxes. Three business models that actually work.
Two hundred copy-paste prompts aggregated from every chapter into a single reference. Organized by genre, artist influence, and category. The page you keep open on a second monitor.
When Suno ships v6, you get the new edition free. Every update logged, every change noted.
Sample chapter
Genre · Boom Bap
Canonical references: Pete Rock, DJ Premier, J Dilla, early Kanye, Roc Marciano. BPM: 75-95 (90 is the canonical pocket). Drum signature: dusty kick, snare on 2/4, vinyl crackle layered under the loop.
Core prompt:
boom bap, gritty confident mood, chopped soul sample, dusty drum break, vinyl crackle, punchy male rap flow, classic New York feel, 90 BPM
Dark variant: swap “confident” for “menacing,” drop to 85 BPM, add “808 sub bass.” Bright variant: swap “gritty” for “uplifting,” raise to 95 BPM, add “jazz piano loop.”
One of 74 genre chapters. Every chapter is this concrete.

Artist DNA · The Weeknd
Why descriptor-only: Suno filters artist names. The guide gives you the DNA that produces the sound without triggering the name filter. Era anchor: 1981-1985 Los Angeles, Tears for Fears, Phil Collins gated reverb.
Descriptor prompt:
male falsetto-led R&B, retro 80s synth pop production, gated reverb snare, smooth pulsing synth bass, neon-night atmosphere, melancholy hopeful mood, glassy electric piano, distant saxophone, 102 BPM
DNA-blending recipe: Combine with the Frank Ocean profile (p. 271) for an alt-R&B / synthpop hybrid — or with Donna Summer (p. 247) for full-disco-revival weight.
One of 40 artist profiles. Plus DNA-blending recipes to combine any two.
Why this exists
I built HookGenius after generating tens of thousands of Suno songs and realizing the problem was not the model. The model is good. The problem was that every tutorial I could find was teaching a v4 workflow for a v5 engine, or offering a genre list without the BPM, or describing "how to prompt" without the word “personas” anywhere. The practitioners doing the work were not writing. The writers were not doing the work.
So I wrote the book I wish existed when I started. Every prompt in this guide has been generated, evaluated, iterated. Every genre has a canonical artist I’ve tested against. Every v5.5 feature has a workflow I use in production. The monetization chapter is the chapter I paid an accountant and a music lawyer to verify.
It is 396 pages because that is what it took. It is $29 because that is what it should cost a serious creator — less than a subscription month, less than a single bad streaming service. The +25 HookGenius credits are included because the book teaches the craft; the tool lets you apply it faster.
If you’re serious about making music with Suno, this is the reference.

What buyers say
This is a terrific program to help set my lyrics up for Suno. The help it gives me helps guide my lyrics vocally and instrumentally in such a perfect way, my songs come out as I imagined them.
I’m using it every day and loving it. It is part of my workflow for every song. … Here is a song where I only had the chorus and had been trying to finish the song for twenty years. I DID use HG lyrics as is for this one. I am beyond thrilled at the results …
